JOHANNESBURG A plane from Honolulu landed in Johannesburg earlier this month and offloaded a plastic-wrapped coffin carrying the body of Lindani Myeni, a South African rugby player, aspiring singer and father.
In the airport’s cargo terminal, a youth contingent from the African National Congress party waved a “Black Lives Matter” banner emblazoned with his smiling face. His widow, Lindsay Myeni, a white American from Hawaii, cradled their 6-month-old daughter and kept watch over their 2-year-old son, while Mr. Myeni’s South African family held onto one another in grief.

EUROPEAN Union (EU) foreign ministers will hold urgent video talks on the escalating fighting between Israel and the Palestinians on Tuesday, the bloc’s foreign policy chief said.
“In view of the ongoing escalation between Israel and Palestine and the unacceptable number of civilian casualties, I am convening an extraordinary VTC of the EU Foreign Ministers on Tuesday,” Josep Borrell wrote on Twitter today.

Pakistan opens registration of Covid-19 vaccination for 30-39 age group from today

The registration for coronavirus vaccines for people who are 30 years and above for the coronavirus vaccination has started across the country from Sunday (today).
Pakistan opened registration for the coronavirus vaccination for people aged between 40 to 49 years across the country on May 3.
Presently, the vaccine registration for the 40-49 age group has been going on since April 27, whereas walk-in vaccinations for people aged 50 and above are underway in the country.
Meanwhile, the National Command and Operations Centre (NCOC) has appealed to the public to register for vaccination on a priority basis.

IT was a festive cheer for a group of B40 women who managed to earn a sustainable income making Raya cookies, selling hampers and personal protective equipment (PPE) despite the ravages of the Covid-19 pandemic and the movement control order (MCO).
“Being empowered financially with support from civil society group, Women of Will (WOW), proved to be a lifeline due to the dip in sales,” said Noraizah Yahya, head of the Community Kitchen at the Batu Muda People’s Housing Project (PPR).
